S3 – Project Management Office organization and functioning

In many organizations around the world a trend of implementation of formal processes and techniques of project management is present with the view of carrying out the agreed initiatives within deadlines, budget and agreed level of quality. A part of ability to implement them in a better, faster and cheaper way comes from the capability to implement general processes and techniques on the level of the whole organization.

In this case there is no break for project manager and project team when switching to the next project. Many organizations have managed to achieve this by establishing a centralized office in charge of development and application of general methodology of project management. Names used in organizations are: „Project Management Office (PMO)“, „Project Office“, or „Project Management Centre of Excellence“. Establishing this kind of office can be a very complex initiative, and this seminar therefore presents a logical model of starting PMOs and its activities connected to application of project management throughout the whole organization.
